General FAQs

1. How much does it cost?

We don’t charge any membership fees for renters or owners.  The renter simply pays the rental price set by the owner (we deduct a fee from this for our services) plus any shipping and PayPal fees, as applicable.  Payment is only taken when a rental is accepted.

2. Can I rent or loan a replica bag?

Share Our Style provides an Authenticity Guarantee and we require that all bags listed on our site are 100% authentic designer bags.  If you think you’ve received a replica bag please contact us as soon as possible at support@shareourstyle.co.uk with evidence to support your claim.  We take this extremely seriously and if it’s proven that a replica has been rented you will be reimbursed and the owner may be fined and/or banned from the site.

3. How long can a bag be rented for?

The minimum rental period is 1 night.  One night is defined as 12:00pm on one day to 11:59am on the next.

4. Can a rental be extended?

Yes, a rental may be extended.  The renter must make a new rental request using the site and choose the pickup option regardless of the initial delivery option to avoid paying outward shipping fees again.  The renter must make sure the extension is accepted by the owner and paid for on our site before the original rental period ends, otherwise the owner’s access to the Share Our Style Guarantee will be invalidated.

5. Why do you ask for reviews?

We are creating a community of trusted designer handbag lovers so it is essential that you can review your experience.  We ask that reviews are truthful and clear.

After a rental has been completed both the owner and the renter will be invited to review.  Please do not include any personally identifiable information in a review such as a person’s last name or address.

6. Why do you ask for online ID checks?

We’re creating a community of trust but for extra peace of mind in a digital world we require all Share Our Style members to complete a quick online ID check.  You will be sent a link by HooYu, an independent firm who do not share or store data without your permission, and you’ll have 72 hours to complete it.  If you don’t receive anything please check your junk (spam) folder or contact us at support@shareourstyle.co.uk.  We’ll let you know when your account has been verified so that you can enjoy full use of our site.  If we don’t hear from you unfortunately we may need to close your account.

7. Why does Royal Mail’s Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm have to be used for shipping?

Royal Mail’s service is one of the few in the UK that will both carry and provide adequate insurance for designer bags.  It also offers delivery by 1pm on the specified delivery day which should be the first day of the rental period.  Please note that some service restrictions may apply and Royal Mail does not carry items over the value of £2,500.  Please keep all postal receipts until the bag has been safely returned to its owner.  We recommend that you take photos of the packaged item with the address and return address clearly visible and check the building name or number and postcode printed on your Post Office receipt.

8. Do you have any ‘house rules’ for rentals?

We do indeed. Here are some key ones, although there are further details in our Terms and Conditions:

  • The maximum value of a bag that can be rented via our site is £4,999
  • We strongly suggest that owners take photos of their bag before and after each rental
  • We strongly recommend the renter takes photos of the bag at the start and end of the rental period
  • Bags should be clean and provided in a dust bag and/or box for each rental
  • The owner is responsible for ensuring that the bag is adequately packaged for outward shipping and the renter is responsible for ensuring that the bag is adequately packaged for return shipping
  • Under no circumstances can bags rented be taken outside of the UK

FAQs for Owners

9. Will my bag be safe if I loan it to others?

We are looking to create a community of trust for designer handbag lovers.  We hope that all members of Share Our Style will honour and respect this community however sometimes things can go wrong.  Please see the Share Our Style Guarantee for more details.

10. What does the Share Our Style Guarantee cover?

The Share Our Style Guarantee offers you peace of mind.  We will cover your bag against theft or physical damage that happens during the rental period while your bag is being loaned using our site in accordance with our Terms and Conditions.  We have an insurance policy for claims over £250 and a warranty for claims below that.

11. What does the insurance cover?

Our insurance applies to claims over £250.  It is available to eligible owners and restrictions may apply.  Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for further details.

12. What happens if something goes wrong?

Please also contact us as soon as possible at support@shareourstyle.co.uk.  Please contact GuardHog on 0207 199 6610 as soon as possible if something has happened which may result in an insurance claim.  GuardHog will then take you through the next steps of making a claim.

13. How much can I earn from loaning one of my bags?

You can decide the nightly rental price for your bag.  You may wish to raise or lower the cost depending on the popularity or scarcity of your bag.  The minimum rental fee is £15 per night.

Our fee is the greater of £5 per transaction or 20% of the total rental cost.

Your earnings = Rental cost – Our fee – PayPal fee

If the shipping option is chosen the renter pays both the outward and return postage fees.  They should select the shipping option when they make the initial rental request and pay when they return the bag to you.

14. Why do I need to have a PayPal account?

All payments on our site are taken by PayPal so you’ll need to have an account with them in order for us to be able to pay you for a rental.  You should receive payment within 7 days of a rental being confirmed.

15. Why are there restrictions on what bags can be listed on the site?

We want our site to showcase designer bags therefore please ensure that any bag you upload is from a brand included on our Approved Brand List.  If you wish to upload a bag made by a brand that isn’t listed please contact us at hello@shareourstyle.co.uk.

16. Can I cancel a transaction after it has been approved and the renter has been paid?

In an ideal world we’d hope you wouldn’t need or wish to cancel an approved rental, but we understand that sometimes things change.  In the event of cancellation any monies paid will need to be refunded to the renter and you may be charged a fee.

17. If a choose the pickup option why do I need to take receipts?

To protect both you and the renter.  You’ll need to take 2 copies of the Pickup receipt for the start of the rental for the initial pickup and 2 copies of the Pickup receipt for the end of the rental on its return.  Each copy needs to be read and signed by both parties to ensure both of you get a copy.  We also suggest that you take a photo of the renter with your bag when they accept it and they take a photo of you with your bag when they return it to you.  Please remember that you’ll be meeting someone you don’t know so you need to be comfortable about both the pickup meeting and its location.

18. How do I remove a bag that I have added to the site?

It is not possible to delete a bag from the site at present but you can close your listing, which will hide it from other users on the site.  You can reopen a closed listing at any time.

19. What happens if my bag is damaged during shipping?

Please contact Royal Mail in the first instance.  If the bag was damaged en route to the renter and a solution cannot be reached between you please contact us at support@shareourstyle.co.uk and we will do our best to assist.

FAQs for Renters

20. Why do the rental prices vary so much?

Owners choose the nightly rental price for their bags.  They can change this if they like, perhaps to reflect the popularity or rarity of a bag.  The minimum nightly rental fee is £15.

21. What if something goes wrong and the bag I’ve rented is damaged or stolen?

It’s important that you contact both us (support@shareourstyle.co.uk) and owner as soon as possible.  You will be liable for any loss or damage during the rental period.

22. What should I do if I’m unable to return the bag I’ve rented on time at the end of the rental period?

It’s important that you contact both us and owner as soon as possible as a failure to do so will be considered theft and may invalidate the Share Our Style Guarantee.  You may also be charged a late return fee.

23. What happens if the bag arrives damaged?

It’s important that you contact the owner as soon as possible as they may need to contact Royal Mail.  If a solution cannot be reached between you please contact us at support@shareourstyle.co.uk and we will do our best to assist.

24. What happens if you’re unsatisfied with the condition of a bag you’ve rented?

We hope that details are listed accurately, however if you do not believe the condition of the bag is a fair reflection of the details and photos stated on the site, it is important that you contact the owner as soon as possible.  If a solution cannot be reached please contact us at support@shareourstyle.co.uk and we will do our best to assist.

25. Do I get a receipt with the pickup option?

Yes, the owner should bring 2 copies of the Pickup receipt for the start of the rental for the initial pickup and 2 copies of the Pickup receipt for the end of the rental on its return.  Each copy needs to be read and signed by both parties to ensure both of you get a copy.  We also suggest that the owner takes a photo of you with their bag when you receive it and you take a photo of the owner with their bag when you return it to them.  Please remember that you’ll be meeting someone you don’t know so you need to be comfortable about both the pickup meeting and its location.  We recommend that you take a photo of the bag at the start and end of the rental period.

26. Can a rental be cancelled after it has been booked?

In this unlikely event you may cancel a rental after it has been confirmed and payment has been taken, however you will not receive a refund for the cancellation.
