Stella McCartney: Where modern sophistication is also ethical

The Stella McCartney brand has become ubiquitous with modern sophistication.  Stella is a lifelong vegetarian and consequently does not use any leather or fur in her designs so it’s faux-leather and faux-suede all the way.

The label’s Falabella bag, instantly recognisable by its braided chain, has now reached icon status.  Introduced in the Winter 2010 collection and refreshed each season it has become one of the brand’s best-selling designs.

We have a couple of bags from the Falabella family available for rent on our site – the black faux-suede Falabella shoulder bag and the grey faux-suede Quilted Baby Bella.

Stella McCartney’s label was launched and showed its first collection in Paris in October 2001.  Its collections include women’s ready-to-wear, accessories, lingerie, eyewear, fragrance and kids’ fashion.

Prada: A byword for luxury and contemporary style

Prada has become a byword for luxury and contemporary style.  It is now one of the most well-known and influential fashion houses.  It began by selling luggage, accessories and luxury goods and now produces men’s and women’s leather goods, clothing, footwear, eyewear and fragrance.

Miuccia Prada, Creative Director and Mario’s granddaughter, joined the company in 1970 and inherited it from her mother, Luisa, in 1978.  Miuccia introduced backpacks and totes made out of tough military specification black nylon that her grandfather had used for steamer trunks in 1979.  The bags’ success wasn’t instant but they later become her first commercial hit.

Prada was founded in 1913 by Mario Prada in Milan, Italy.  In 1919 Prada received the warrant of ‘Official Supplier of the Italian Royal Household’, and has been able to display the royal Savoy coat of arms and figure-of-eight knots alongside the company logo ever since.

3 Valentine’s Day styles to choose from

Valentine’s Day can be a love hate affair even for those who are in happy relationships. Some of us like to celebrate and some of us avoid what may be viewed as the commercialisation of love.  The good news is wherever we stand on the matter we can always have great style.

You may go for love and romance with the red Lulu Guinness Red Lips Clutch, glittery Anya Hindmarch Valorie Clutch, Victoria Beckham Zip Pouch in pale pink or the Charlotte Olympia Pandora in burnt orange.

Or, you may prefer a sassier look with the Jimmy Choo Tube Clutch in leopard print,  Stella McCartney Falabella in black with gold-coloured chain trim or the Gucci Soho Disco Bag in black.

Alternatively, you may choose a more classic look with the Mulberry Mock-croc Evening Bag in black, the Chanel Classic Flap Bag in black or the Burberry Bowling Bag in classic haymarket print.

Whatever you choose we’d love to hear about your Valentine’s Day style in the comments below.

Michael Kors: American luxury with a modern twist

I wasn’t aware of the Michael Kors brand until I was routing around Macy’s and Bloomingdales in New York nearly ten years ago.  That said, once I had, I immediately noticed that a large number of women were sporting the brand’s bags around the streets of Manhattan.

A few years later I purchased a white leather shoulder bag which is perfect for spring/summer days or the winter white trend.

Michael Kors offers luxury with a modern twist.  Leather and suede bags range from casual to more sophisticated and dressy styles.  There is also the signature collection which is made out of MK monogrammed coated canvas.

The brand has become increasingly popular in the UK since opening a number of standalone stores over the last few years and this doesn’t look like changing any time soon.

Established in 1981, Michael Kors is now an award winning global brand offering luxury accessories and ready-to-wear.  Michael Kors himself has been described as having, “an innate sense of glamour and an unfailing eye for timeless chic”.  What do you think of Michael Kors?  Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Why it’s worth being chained to Stella McCartney’s Falabella bag

Stella McCartney’s Falabella bag, instantly recognisable by its braided chain, has become synonymous with her fashion house.

The Falabella was introduced in the Winter 2010 collection and has become one of the brand’s best-selling designs.  It comes in a number of styles, materials and finishes and is refreshed from season to season.  Stella is a lifelong vegetarian and consequently does not use any leather or fur in her designs so it’s faux-leather and faux-suede all the way.

I’m a big fan of the Falabella’s modern and minimalist styles.  We have a couple of bags from the Falabella family available for rent on our site – the Falabella shoulder bag and the Quilted Baby Bella.

The fashion house launched and showed its first collection in Paris in October 2001.  Its collections include women’s ready-to-wear, accessories, lingerie, eyewear, fragrance and kids’ fashion.

Kate Spade’s Quirky New York Style

Kate Spade’s bags first came to my attention when I was in Manhattan in 2001.  I was amazed that a brand I’d never heard of was seemingly everywhere.  It was so popular that counterfeiting appeared rife with sellers on every corner.  Needless to say I did not, and never have, purchased a replica but it sparked my curiosity in the brand nonetheless.

Kate Spade bags are quirky, colourful and playful.  Every season there are twists on its core designs in the form of great colours, materials and embellishments.  The novelty collection is always such fun, often based on a theme such as animals, birds, fruit or pastimes.

Being the magpie that I am I finally took the plunge and added a Kate Spade to my collection when I saw Kaley in her golden glory.  Her seemingly simply design and subtle branding should not be underestimated.  I believe there is much beauty in minimalism and she adds glamour to any outfit whether dressed up or down. Check out more of Kate Spade’s style with Jemma’s Cobble Hill Krista in animal print.

It’s been reported that Kate Spade New York was founded in 1993 as an antidote to what its founders (Katherine Brosnahan and Andrew Spade) described as “the nothing black bag” that they saw on the streets of Manhattan.  Tell us what you think about Kate Spade New York’s bags in the comments below.

Coccinelle is a Florence find

Italian style has always been admired.  And not be outdone, Italian accessories are known for their design flair and exquisite leatherwork.

I first stumbled upon Coccinelle, which translates as ladybird, when I couldn’t resist entering one of its shops in Florence.  The modern feminine designs, pretty colours and glamour were too inviting and I made a purchase.  I bought a shoulder bag in a natural coloured buttery soft leather which smelt divine and still does!

Established in Parma, Italy, in 1978, Coccinelle is a renowned luxury accessories brand priding itself on quality and styling.  Tell us what you think about Coccinelle in the comments below.
