5 reasons Mulberry’s Seth is an everyday bag hero

Mulberry’s Seth is a real everyday handbag hero.  But don’t just take our word for it we also tell you why:

  1. Large capacity: It can hold lots of stuff making it perfect for everyday use
  2. Pocket: There’s a handy pocket on the front to hold those essentials we need easy access to such as travel tickets or a lipstick
  3. Strap: The heavy-duty strap is not only comfortable but also adjustable
  4. Luxurious materials: The bag itself is made from gorgeous leather
  5. Design: Its simple design is both stylish and timeless

Roger Saul founded Mulberry in Somerset, England in 1971, initially selling leather belts.  This British brand still makes 50% of all its leather bags in England.  For us Mulberry is all about beautiful styling, craftsmanship and quality.  There’s something so inviting about Mulberry stores with their gorgeous displays and the beautiful aroma of good quality leather.  The presentation and wrapping is always feels so decadent.

We’re lucky enough to have a Seth for rent on our site. Why not take a look?

We’d love to hear your thoughts on Mulberry’s Seth bag in the comments below.

5 hacks to choose your perfect designer bag

Buying a designer bag is a big decision, in fact huge, for most of us. It’s something we may only do once in our lifetimes therefore it’s important to make the right decision.

Whenever our head gets turned by a new bag we consider the following points:

  1. Take your time: Do you really love it? If yes, ask if you can see yourself using it both now and for years to come. It may help to pull together a mood board using Pinterest or an old School pin board with cuttings.
  2. Do your research: Thanks to the internet not only can we peruse the objects of our desire including specifications, finishes, etc but it’s never been easier to find reviews of all sorts of things. Whilst there’s no substitute for getting your mitts on the bag you’re after it may be worth seeing what others have to say about it on a site such as Purse Blog.
  3. Does it have a particular purpose?: Think about how you will use it. Is it for work or everyday use or to be brought out for special occasions?  You may also want to consider how much stuff you need to carry around with you and if it will fit inside.
  4. How do you want to carry it?: Do you like to have your hands free or hold your bag? Which style best suits your needs – shoulder, backpack, cross-body or tote bag? It’s unlikely that simply being pretty will be enough.
  5. Be a savvy shopper: Once you’re sure you’ve found ‘the one’ could you pick it up cheaper? Could it be less expensive abroad, in the airport, in the sale, at a designer outlet or on a discount day such as Selfridges’ pre-Christmas 20% off promotion?  Unfortunately brands are getting wise to savvy shoppers and the bag of your dreams may only be available full price in their boutiques but we think it’s worth checking.

Have you got your eye on a special bag?  We’d love to hear about it in the comments below.

We should revel in the playfulness of Charlotte Olympia’s Pandora’s clutch

Charlotte Olympia Dellal, the founder of Charlotte Olympia, says her creativity is, “inspired by a bygone era of old Hollywood glamour”.  We believe this shines through in the designs and the choice of fabrics and materials used.

The Pandora clutch is the brand’s iconic perspex bag.  Changed-up each season with on-trend colours and finishes, this signature design stays true to the brands feminine and fun persona.  We love the pink and yellow Pandora with its bright colours and quirky styling even down to its spider clasp. We also have Pandoras in navy with gold detailing and burnt orange.  They manage to be both playful effortlessly chic and could brighten up any outfit in seconds.

The Pandora clutch should in no way be confused with Pandora’s box, which is said to contain all the evils of the world and once opened it can never be closed.  However once one is aware of the Pandora clutch you can never un-see its beauty.

Launched in 2008 Charlotte Olympia is a London based luxury shoe and accessories brand with an ever-growing international presence.  Its shoe icons including the Dolly with its signature ‘island’ platform and distinctive Kitty flats.

5 hacks to care for your designer bag

So, you’ve got the designer bag of your dreams but how can you best take care of it?  Bags are often works of art handcrafted from delicate materials.  They require a bit of TLC to keep them looking their best.

Here are our handy hacks to help you care for your designer bag:

  1. Store it in a dust bag: Most designer bags come with a dust bag, a soft cloth bag which often has a tie. This helps to protect your bag from dust, damage and the likelihood of it being scratched or damaged. Try to store your bag inside its dust bag when you’re not using it.  If you’ve mislaid or didn’t receive a dust bag a clean pillow can be a useful alternative.
  2. Keep in a clean and dry environment: Direct sunlight and hot, humid or damp environments can all damage bags.
  3. Don’t squash your bag: Ensure your bag isn’t scrunched up or squashed when it’s being stored to avoid it becoming misshapen.  Acid-free paper or bubble wrap are great stuffing materials.  Make sure you’ve removed all personal items from your bag before it’s stored.
  4. Take care when using perfumes, creams, and makeup: Makeup, lotions and liquids can all stain the components of your bag.  Residues may discolour or leave marks on leather, material, metal buckles, chain straps, decorations and linings.
  5. Take care when you’re out and about: Be careful where you put your bag down. Liquids and sharp objects are possible hazards for your bag.  You may wish to use a bag hanger to keep your bag off a dirty floor or table.

How did Orla Kiely become “The Queen of Prints”?

Described by The Guardian as “the Queen of Prints”, Orla Kiely is now synonymous with bold multi-coloured designs.  Her ‘stem’ prints in particular are instantly recognisable and highly covetable.

Kiely began her career designing hats, before moving on to handbags, homeware and clothing.  Talking to the New York Times in 2009 she said credits her father for noticing that, “everyone was carrying a handbag, but no one was wearing a hat” during her first London Fashion Week.  In the late 1990s, she had the idea to laminate cloth for handbags, “At the time, no one was doing anything like it. Laminated fabric, in those days, meant tablecloths”.  She made her idea a reality and the rest, as they say, is history.

She designed for other brands such as Esprit and Habitat before launching her label in London in 1997.  Her brand has gone from strength to strength and is known worldwide.

What do you think about Orla Kiely’s designs?  We’d love to hear your thoughts.

We tell you what makes a bag ‘designer’

Designer bags have become big business and they often bolster labels’ finances, if not directly fund the label entirely, particularly those that produce haute couture.  But what makes a bag ‘designer’?

Some may say it’s the design, others may cite luxury materials, be it leather, suede, metallic or exotic skins.  Or perhaps it’s exclusivity, in the form of the brand, the shopping experience and the price.  Ultimately it’s a tantalising mix of all of these things.

It’s proven difficult to find a definitive definition of a designer bag, however the Collins English Dictionary for designer clothing could easily be applied to bags, “designer clothing is fashionable or luxury clothing made by, or carrying the label of, a well-known fashion designer”.

Our style influences come in many forms and evolve throughout our lives as we create our own unique style.  We firmly believe that a designer bag can elevate any outfit whether we’re popping to the supermarket or out for a fancy meal.
